2013년 10월5일, 여성연합과 천주평화연합 캐나다 본부는 캐나다의 수도인 오타와에서 ‘캐나다는 스스로 보기에 다른 존재들을 가족처럼 맞이하는가?’라는 논제를 가지고 ‘제2회 여성연합&천주평화연합 연례회의’를 가졌다. 북미 원주민 두 여성의 전통노래를 시작으로 이 날 교육, 다민족 그리고 원주민 문제에 대한 토론의 장을 열었다.

김기훈 의장(천주평화연합 북미 본부)은 가정의 가치의 중요성에 대해 강조하며, “오직 참사랑만이 평화를 가져오고, 인류의 분열을 치유할 수 있다”는 창설자 문 총재 내외분의 말씀을 공유하였다.

릴리 타딘 회장(여성연합 캐나다 본부)은 “여성들이 모두가 바라는 평화세계에 이바지하기 위한 길을 모색하고 있다”며 여성의 존엄성과 인권성장을 위한 자신들의 활동에 대해 소개하였다. 

이어 참석자들은 ‘교육의 역할’, ‘종교의복은 종교적인 책무 아니면 정치적 위치의 상징인가?’, ‘캐나다 내 원주민 여성 실종 문제’ 세 가지 주제를 가지고, 세 개의 세션을 가졌다.

마지막으로 더글라스 카디날 박사의 기조연설로 이 날 회의를 마쳤다.

Leadership Conference Envisions Canada as a Welcoming Family

“Should Canada See Itself as a Welcoming Family?” was the question asked by the annual UPF and Women’s Federation for World Peace conference in Ottawa, Canada on Oct. 5, 2013. Two women from the First Nations of North America opened with traditional chanting before the day’s discussions of educational, multi-ethnic, and aboriginal concerns.

Dr. Kihoon Kim, Chair of UPF-North America, emphasized the importance of family values and shared the message of the Founders, Father and Mother Moon that only true love can bring peace and heal the divisions in the divided human family.

Mrs. Lilly Tadin, President of WFWP-Canada, said, “Women are searching for ways to contribute to the peaceful world that we all long for,” and described WFWP's work promoting human rights and women’s dignity.

We had three sessions on the topics ‘A More Caring, Sharing Citizen: The Role of Education’, ‘Is Devotional Garb a Sign of Spiritual Commitment or a Political Statement?’ and ‘The Cry of the Lost Aboriginal Sisters Across Canada’.

The conference closed with a keynote speech by Dr. Douglas Joseph Cardinal.
