1월 21일~23일 세계평화여성연합 세계본부(한국)가 주최하며 여성연합 미국지부와 남미지부의 공동주관으로 남미 코스타리카에서 를 개최했다.

이라는 주제로 개최된 컨퍼런스는 미국, 코스타리카 국회의원과 세계 각국의 교육, 언론, 문화계의 여성 대표들이 함께하여 성황을 이룬 가운데 한국에서는 문난영 회장, 최연아 부회장, 박근영 이사장, 최영선 사무총장이 참석하였다.

특히 미국을 대표하여 전 미국 조지부시 대통령 딸인 도로 부시여사, 중미 벨리즈(국가명)의 영부인 킴 심플리스 배로우, 코스타리카의 전직 영부인 에스트렐라 제레돈, 엘살바도르의 전직 영부인 엘리자베스 칼데론, 남미 우루과이 전직 영부인 그라시엘라 롬파니이 외 남미 각국의 여성 국회의원, 대학총장 등 500명의 여성 지도자들이 참석하였다.

대회 첫째 날에는 여성연합의 창시자 문선명, 한학자 총재님의 소개와 더불어 본 연합의 UN을 중심한 세계적 활동을 소개했다.

둘째 날, 문난영 회장은 환영사를 통해 ‘21세기는 여성의 시대’임을 강조하면서 여성 지도자들을 환영하였고, 문인진 미국총회장은 ‘평화세대 육성’이라는 주제 강연을 통해 남미, 중미, 북미 여성 지도자들에게 ‘평화세대’를 이끌어 갈 혁명에 합류할 것을 촉구했다.

이어 도로시 부시 여사의 ‘미국사회 속의 문맹에 대한 문제’라는 주제의 기조연설과 각국 대표들의 연설 및 토론이 이어졌다.

2부 행사인 저녁만찬에서는 미디어, 가족, 건강, 여성인권, 장애아동, 도덕규범 등 총 6개 분야의 시상식과 더불어 ‘남·중·북미 화합을 위한 성명서’를 통해 “어머니의 마음으로 하나 되자”며 마음을 모아 결의하는 시간으로 마감했다.

Costa Rica "International Women's Leadership Conference of the Americas"

WFWP International and WFWP USA held an International Women's Leadership Conference of the Americas, January 21-23, in San Jose, Costa Rica.

The theme was "Women's Role in Leadership in the 21st Century Toward a Culture of Family and Peace," and 500 leaders from North, Central and South America, Europe, Korea and Japan participated. Representative participants were Mrs. Dorothy Bush-Koch, Mrs. Kim Simplis Barrow, the First Lady of Belize, Mrs. Estrella Zeledon Lizano de Carazo, former First Lady of Costa Rica, and Mrs. Elizabeth Calderon Sol, former First Lady of El Salvador; Mrs. Graciella Rompani de Pacheco, former First Lady of Uruguay.

From Korea, President Lan Young Moon, International Vice President Yeon Ah Choi, Director Keun Ryung Park, and Secretary General Young Sun Choi of WFWP Korea attended, as well as members of the Costa Rican National Assembly, and women representatives in the fields of education, media and culture.

At the orientation on the first day of the conference, President Moon introduced the WFWP founder and WFWP's world activities as a UN NGO.

The second day, Pres. Lan Young Moon emphasized in her opening remarks the role of women leaders in the era of women. Rev. In Jin Moon, President and CEO, HSA-UWC North America, then called on North, Central, and South America leaders to become people who will bring a change to world and to join in a silent revolution that will lead "the Peace Generation," through her keynote address, "Raising a Generation of Peace."

At the Evening Gala, "Women of Distinction Awards” were presented in the areas of Media, Health, Women's Rights, Handicapped Children, and Moral Values.

The attendees also signed a "Proclamation for the Unity within the Americas," in which they united in heart around the theme, "Let's be One with Motherly Love."
