호주 여성연합 빅토리아 지부는 2월 22일 토요일 클레이턴 씨어터에서 ‘평화의 다리’ 자매결연 행사를 가졌다. 먼저 빌 폰티키스(Bill Pontikis) 의원이 환영의 인사와 함께 인생에 있어서 여성의 중요성에 대해 자신의 경험에 빗대어 공유하였다.

이 날 여성연합 창립 22주년을 기념하며 지금까지의 세계 활동, ‘평화의 다리’ 자매결연식, 호주활동 및 태평양 섬나라 봉사활동을 파워포인트로 소개하였다.

‘만다라(수레바퀴)’를 준비하여 참석자들이 자유롭게 평화의 메시지와 희망들을 적는 시간을 가졌으며, 풍성한 음악과 춤이 가득한 축하공연이 이어졌다.

 초청연사로 이슬람 커뮤니티를 대표하여 마넬 초크(Manelle Chawk) 변호사와 안나 버크(Anna Burke_ 하원의원을 대신하여 스테파니 페리(Stefani Perri) 전 모나쉬 시장이 함께 하여 ‘여성의 역할’에 대해 얘기하였다.

 ‘세계평화기도모임(World Peace Prayer Society)’ 오세아니아를 대표하여 제니 펀스턴(Jenny Funston) 대표가 ‘평화의 기둥(Peace Pole)'의 의미에 대해 설명하였다. ’온누리에 평화를‘이란 모토를 가지고 전 세계에 평화의 소리를 전하고 있으며, 이번에 제작한 기둥엔 세계적으로 평화운동을 하는 여성 지도자들의 메시지가 적혀있으며, 세계평화여성연합 창설자인 한학자 총재의 말씀도 포함되어 있다.

 이어 ‘평화의 다리’ 자매결연 행사를 가졌다. 많은 여성들이 자매를 맺고 서로의 삶에 대해 공유하는 시간을 가졌다. 일부 남성 참가자들도 감동을 받아 행사에 참여하였다.

Oceania-Australia holds a ‘Bridge of Peace’ Sisterhood Ceremony

The ‘Bridge of Peace’ Sisterhood Ceremony was held by the Women’s Federation for World Peace-Victoria at the Clayton Theatrette on Saturday, February 22. Councillor Bill Pontikis welcomed everyone and gave a moving testimony about the role of women in his life, especially his wife, Barbara.

This year WFWP International is celebrating its 22nd year. A PowerPoint with historical footage of the development of WFWP activities and the ‘Bridge of Peace’throughout its 122 international chapters was shown. Also, historical footage of the WFWP activities in Australia and the service projects in the Pacific Islands was presented.

Participants had the opportunity to write their peace messages on the wheel of a mandala in the foyer, and they were full of music and dance.

Our guest speakers Manelle Chawk, representing the Islamic Society of Victoria, and Stefanie Perri, representing Anna Burke MP (Member for Chisholm), spoke on the role of women. Ms. Manelle Chawk is an Australia-born lawyer, and Stephanie Perri is the retired Mayor of the City of Monash.

Jenny Funston, the official Oceania Representative for the World Peace Prayer Society, explained the meaning of the ‘Peace Pole’. The WFWP peace pole features 4 peace messages from prominent women who are peace builders in the global arena, including Dr. Hak Ja Han Moon, founder of WFWP-International.

The ‘Bridge of Peace’sisterhood ceremony followed. After the event, the new ‘sisters’ had time to share their stories with each other. The male participants in the audience were inspired to come on stage to show their unity and friendship, and to be included in the ceremony.
